Resumen

La fotopolimerización de resinas compuestas es un procedimiento esencial en odontología restauradora. Sin embargo, su éxito clínico puede verse comprometido cuando no se consideran variables críticas del proceso. Este trabajo analiza la importancia de conocer los fundamentos físicos y químicos implicados, particularmente en relación con las características de las unidades de fotocurado (tipo de emisión, intensidad, distancia de la guía de luz) y los distintos fotoiniciadores presentes en los materiales restauradores. Se brinda la información básica sobre cómo la interacción entre la luz emitida y el fotoiniciador afecta la conversión del monómero, así como la calidad final de la restauración. Se concluye que una comprensión adecuada de estos factores contribuye a mejorar la eficacia del procedimiento clínico y la longevidad de las restauraciones compuestas.
